Holland Basham Architects was selected by Alegent Health to design a new 2-story addition to the existing hospital. Community Memorial Hospital in Missouri Valley was originally constructed in 1956 with a considerable renovation and addition in 1977. Since that time, however, the facility had not been significantly updated.

The project included the relocation and expansion of the Emergency Department and the Outpatient Clinic from a building across the street from the hospital. A new main entrance and drive-under canopy were provided along with a walk-in emergency entrance and ambulance garage with decontamination facilities. Dedicated Specialty Clinic space was also provided along with a relocation of the Lab more central to the hospital. The displaced administration offices were relocated to the south patient wing of the hospital in remodeled patient rooms. The new basement addition consists of much needed storage space and a new staff entrance to the building from 8 th Street and the relocated therapy departments across the street.

The last phase of the project included the remodel of the existing outpatient physician clinic into Physical and Occupational Therapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation along one of the two wings of the building. The second wing is to be occupied by Mental Health and will accommodate both psychiatrists and psychologists. Separate waiting rooms and support spaces were provided for each department.
