Holland Basham Architects and HKS of Dallas, Texas were retained by Alegent Health to design and provide full architectural services for the $15 million Mercy Hospital expansion and renovation as part of the Alegent Health's Century Plan.

The expansion and renovation included the renovation of the third floor medical/surgical patient rooms, construction of a new medical office building, construction of heart and diagnostic centers, and expansion and renovation of the perioperative area and the emergency and trauma center. Sitework included the addition of several parking lots and a new boulevard drive.

Components of the project included:

  • Clear, separate entrances for different needs; i.e, patients, visitors, staff, emergency, etc.

  • Provide for immediate and obvious orientation within the building

  • Separation of staff, patient and visitor traffic within the building

  • Minimize disruption to facilitate day-to-day operation

  • Provide for future growth

  • Flexible building system
